I have had two wine refrigerators for several years and the older one was a NewAir 21 bottle cooler. It served me well and I really liked it, but it was no longer functioning properly. So, it was great timing when the folks at NewAir asked me if I was interested in reviewing their AWR-190SB wine cooler.
When my new wine cooler was delivered, I was amazed how heavy the package was. I unpacked it near the front door, put it on a rug and slid it into my dinette area.. I picked up the old wine cooler and carried it to the garage. The difference in weight was amazing. Clearly, the new AWR-190SB cooler was made with heavier duty parts.
The AWR-190SB cooler has a stainless steel front door which matches my other appliances. I am using it as a stand alone cooler but it can also be used as a built-in unit.
One of the nicest features of the cooler is the pullout wood shelving which makes accessing your wine so easy. My older coolers have stainless steel shelves which are spaced too tightly together. In this cooler, there is adequate space for the heaviest wine bottles and adequate depth for those Riesling or Rose' bottles that are a little longer than the average wine bottle. I read a comment online that you cannot get 19 bottles in this cooler. That is absolutely false. Each shelf will hold 2 bottles laying in one direction and one in the other while the bottom shelf will hold 4 bottles .
Here are some additional features with this cooler:
1. The front door can be locked. This is not important to me, but could be important if you have children or are storing very valuable wine.
2. The blue interior lighting has three settings- 100%, 50% or off.
3. The cooler has a small footprint. The base is only 11.6 inches wide.
I am very happy with my wine cooler. It is well made, looks great, runs quietly and maintains a consistent temperature. What more could you want in a one zone wine cooler?
The list price for the AWR-190SB cooler is $699.95. NewAir is selling it for $579.95 at their website, CLICK HERE. Readers of this blog can get an additional 20% reduction by entering discount code 20BERNARDS. I receive no compensation if you purchase the cooler in this way.
