Costco has put the 2011 Shingleback "Davey Estate" shiraz on sale at the Greenville store. Online, this single vineyard, 100% shiraz wine sells for an average price of $23. Costco's regular price is $17.89 and yesterday it was on sale for $13.99.
The Davey Estate Vineyard is a sustainably managed vineyard located in Whites Valley, at the southern end of the McLaren Vale wine region is southern Australia. The cool growing season in 2011 allowed for slow ripening of the grapes, resulting in fragrant wines with structure and depth. The wine matured for 14 months in French and American oak. Winemaker John Davey notes the wine has "sumptious strawberry and blackberry primary flavors along with nuances of spice and minerality". The wine would pair exceptionally well with grilled pork chops.
The wine has received many accolades and won several international competitions. It is an exceptional value at this price.
SC Wine Joe rating = 91
